Day 1: five states in one day
The first day will be pretty unremarkable, apart for the fact that we will be driving for one of the longest span in the entire trip, more than 600 miles through 5 different states, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio, ending the first day in Columbus, OH.
As a side note, today I have setup a couple of applications on my iPhone that will allow me to post short notes directly from the road, including snapshots taken directly from the phone - nothing too fancy but should be a fun way to allow you all to follow us as our adventure progresses.

Oh man, not sure if you can make this distance on day one. Always remember that first day of a road trip is the most painful. Plus, you will be crossing a lot of toll roads just to get out of the traffic mess. On my day one of NY-CA I did 300 miles and called it a day. I stayed at Derwood MD. You can do at most 400 miles before feeling really tired.

Well that’s why we will be leaving home before dawn to get through the city way before traffic even picks up… the target is to reach our destination in the afternoon, before dinner.
This also sets the mood of the trip which is early rising and sleeping early
And with the right music on the ipod time will just fly, I am sure!
